We are a comprehensive high school with a variety of programs including, International Baccalaureate, Project the Lead Way and Career & Technical Education classes. All of these programs provide students an opportunity to

Learn the basics of news production when you write, present, shoot and edit WOLF-TV, our weekly school-wide news program. Lights, Camera, ACTION! Do you have a message you want to tell through a video or short movie? In Video Cinema Arts (VCA), you will learn how to write, direct, shoot, edit and market your work! Certain clinical skills that students might need in their future careers take lots of practice, and a great example of this is drawing blood from the arm of a patient. Students in the PLTW Biomedical Sciences program can learn and practice these skills on "fake" arms before they do it on an actual person's arm!
Some clinical scenarios in the medical field are complex and intimidating with an actual human that needs treatment, so learning these skills on a "mannequin" first can be very helpful. The PLTW Biomedical Sciences program has access to clinical, life-like mannequins that students can use to learn skills from drawing blood to resuscitating a patient who stops breathing.
The PLTW Biomedical Sciences program contains many hands-on labs and activities that students engage in and that challenge students to use what they are learning in class to solve problems in the medical field...now and in the future.
One of the best parts of the PLTW Biomedical Sciences program is that students get to learn and practice skills that they can carry with them into their future careers...skills like dissection techniques that might be used in surgery and suturing/stitching techniques used to close a wound on a patient.
In the PLTW Biomedical Sciences program, students learn and practice the skills that medical professionals use to diagnose and treat illness and disorder in their patients. For example, students learn how to tell the difference between red blood cells in patients with sickle cell disease from red blood cells in patients without the disease. They also learn how to identify cancer cells under a microscope and differentiate them from "normal" cells.
In the 2nd course of the PLTW Biomedical Sciences sequence, students learn the anatomy and physiology of the human body by adding clay to a plastic body model using the various systems of the human body as a guide - students "build" a human body throughout the course!
Our "Wolfgang" crew! Named in honor of the famous musician, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! We're also pretty sure that Mozart would have loved mariachi music too!
Instruments may be bought/rented from a local store or we have instruments for you to use!
Westy Bands has two levels of jazz bands - Jazz Laboratory and Jazz Ensemble. Join us to learn how to play jazz on drumset, bass, guitar, piano, and wind instruments! Check out www.westminsterpublicschools.org/whsband for more. Everyone in Westy Bands has the chance to play drumline cadences on marching quads, snare drums, cymbals, and bass drums. Wolf Bites Food Truck is the first, and currently only Food Truck in the state of Colorado operated exclusively by culinary students. This truck arrived in February 2021 and enables our students to elevate their learning in ways that cannot be achieved in the traditional classroom. Students plan menus, interact with clients, prepare and serve the food under the direction of their chef instructor.
Students from the ProStart class are the primary operators of the food truck, but an opportunity is extended to students in Culinary Essentials as well who have a desire to begin building their skills as well. They just need to take and pass the ServSafe Food Handler Exam.
Colorado ProStart is sponsored by the National & Colorado Restaurant Associations. It is a two-year foodservice hospitality management curriculum offered to junior and senior students. This nationally certified program is a competency based study of food preparation, lodging, customer service, and business management coupled with 1+ years of mentored industry work internships in a broad spectrum of operations.
